DON'T RUSH YOUR DIVORCE SETTLEMENT

A client came into my Brentwood, TN office recently and said they wanted to get their divorce done as squickly as possible.  They insisted on filing the divorce complaint immediately despite me encouraging them to wait until we sorted out the finances.  The attorney rushed the divorce complaint which ended up having several mistakes with incorrect client information etc.

Then, the client insisted on rushing the divorce settlement before they had time to really consider the financial consequences.  The settlement was drafted and both spouses hastily signed the agreement.  Two weeks later the spouses decided they wanted a different settlement... Because the settlement was already signed, it could not be changed without incurring significant legal fees. 

Haste does indeed make waste.  It is far better to measure twice and cut once.
