Wona looking at options for her divorce settlement

A potential client came into my Brentwood, TN office this morning and said she did not want to deal with attorneys fighting over the estate and asked me to explain the options she had for her divorce settlement.  I explained that I could not know the options for her divorce settlement until I understood her assets, debts, expensenses, settlement priorities and concerns.  Just as a physician cannot treat an illness until they gather health data, I need to gather financial information before I could understand  and explain her options for her divorce settlement.

If you are considering divorce, you will need to provide the professional helping you with financial information.  I provide my clients with a check list of the information I need to access their case.  While gathering this information may seem inconvenient, it is essential.

If you were considering renovating your home, the builder would need quite a bit of information before they could provide you with an estimate and timeline.  Yes, planning a renovation is more fun than a divorce.  But careful planning for any of life's challenges will provide a better end result.  If you are considering divorce, it will take some effort to structure a smart settlement.  Be patient, measure twice and cut once.  This methodology will result in a financially smart divorce.
